Much like nurturing a mere sapling into a thriving tree, strengthening the relationship with your child(ren) requires a tremendous amount of work and effort. Parenting is no doubt one of the toughest tasks in the world, but by maintaining a close relationship and open communication with your child, you can stay connected to them during all the stages of their life.

Let us have a look at a few ways with which you can nurture and solidify your relationship with your child -

Express your love verbally

Of course you love your child, but it is vital to say the simple but powerful ‘I love you’, no matter how old they are. It is especially important to emphasize that you love them during the rare times you are in conflict or disagreement.

Spend quality time with them

This is considered a given, but today’s hectic work life prevents many parents from actively doing so. Rather than leaving quality time whenever you are free, make sure that you commit a time or create rituals to spend daily with your child. You can either play ball, board games, chess, or simply sing songs or talk depending on their age and interests. Turn off your mobiles and television so that your child has your undivided attention.

Give them freedom to express their thoughts

A seemingly simple, but often overlooked tactic. Whenever your child is angry, upset or simply excited about something, let them express themselves freely and try to understand the situation from their unique point of view. As your child grows up, they will have more confidence and faith that you will listen to, acknowledge and understand any challenges they might face.

Let them help you with simple tasks

Enlisting your child to help you with simple tasks such as unloading groceries will make them feel ten feet tall, and help promote closeness between you.

Use PACE

Education will of course remain a dominating aspect of your relationship during your child’s formative years. PACE (Parent and Child Engagement) is an app which lets you get a holistic view of your child’s learning journey, engage with your child through gamification and quizzes, as well as assign reward points to motivate your child to achieve their goals. Try out the app on Android and iOS to see for yourself how PACE can help you engage with your child throughout their academic endeavours.
